Rifle Load

Interior ballistics covers the events inside a gun that occur from the time the firing pin strikes the primer until the bullet exits the muzzle. These include powder burning rates, chamber pressure, and muzzle velocity. From firing tests, sufficient data has emerged that when coupled with sound ballistic correlations have allowed the development of a mathematical model for the reasonable prediction of small arm internal ballistics.

The Rifle Load section can select the correct powder type (or types), powder charge and calculate both the estimated muzzle velocity and chamber pressure for virtually any rifle cartridge - present or future. It covers rifles up through .70 caliber and bullet weights to 1200 grains. Over 85 powders listed, including all American powders, Vihtavuori Oy Finnish powders and the ADI Australian powders. Load data generated is in good agreement with results obtained from actual range tests.

Load data for any given cartridge will cover from two to ten powders. The program displays loads for both a primary and an alternate group of powders. The alternate loading table calculates pressures and velocities for both the suggested powder group and a secondary powder group. This information is calculated for loading densities from 75% to 100%. Loads which may generate overpressure are designated.
